The torque-meter that measures the efficiency of your propulsion in real time.

Torque, power and shaft speed on the propulsion shaft. A real measurement, not an estimated calculation.

Calibrated in the laboratory, installed in a day, reliable forever.

Engine nameplate figures are set after bench testing. But real-world conditions and time change everything, and those figures are never updated.

With the SMB torque-meter you can know, in real time and with a genuine measurement, what the actual efficiency of your propulsion is. The true figure  not estimated, to adjust the engine to its maximum output, minimising every inefficiency.

Direct measurement on the shaft.
Engineered to last without asking for anything.

The system detects the torsional deformation of the propulsion shaft and the rotational speed then converts it into precise values of torque (Nm), power (kW) and rotational speed (rpm) in real time.

Other torque-meters measure the same parameters. The difference is how they are built, and what happens after installation.

POWTORX Receiver

  • Receives data from TORQRING via radio: torque, rpm and power.
  • Transmits via RS485 to the TORQUEBOARD.
  • Diagnostics with status LEDs.
  • Made of anodized aluminum, resistant to external agents.
  • Range up to 2 meters, channeling for nearby axes.
  • It works with 12-24V DC.

TORQDIG Transducer

It translates the strain gauge signal into digital. It measures torque, axis rotation, and supply voltage for diagnostics. It is lab-calibrated to the specific axis data and does not require further on-board calibration.

TORQDIG Ring

Custom-built dynamic component. Contains and protects the TORQDIG digital torque transducer and the POWSUP power system.

POWSUP Power System

Original self-powered system. No external 220V power supply required.

Mother board TORQUEBOARD

  • Receives data from the POWTORX.
  • It manages programmable, RS232, RS485 and MODBUS TCP/IP.
  • DIN rail installation, 24V power supply.
  • DIN rail installation, 24V power supply.

With real data, the engine always works at the right operating point

Installed, set up, and running.

The real saving is not in the 7 hours of engine downtime at installation — it is in all the downtime that will never happen again. Unless unforeseen external events occur, you can forget about it. The SMB torque-meter is designed from the outset with the fewest possible components: fewer parts mean fewer failure points, less wear, fewer interventions.

The system requires no scheduled maintenance. Once on board, it works. This is the robustness we mean: not just physical strength, but reliability over time, in any marine condition.

And to ensure it is operational from day one: the system is calibrated in our laboratory before delivery. No on-site calibration. Our team installs and sets directly on board our instruments.

We know the sea. Over 2,000 sea trials on every type of vessel, from fishing boats to ferries. Our products are born in our laboratory and designed for real-world use: in the water, with everything the sea brings with it.

Every vessel is different.
The torque-meter fits, always.

There are 2,000 sea trials behind every SMB project. We know that a fishing boat’s engine room is not a ferry’s, and that vessels of the same type can have entirely different shaft configurations.

The SMB torque-meter is adapted to your specific configuration: shaft diameter and material, available space on board, operating conditions

Designed and manufactured in Italy, tailored to your needs.

A unique technology. Adapted to your vessel.

The SMB torque-meter is an original system: self-powered, accurate to 1% and real-time. It is not a generic product adapted for marine use: it is an instrument designed specifically for naval propulsion, with proprietary technology.

YOUR Torque-meter will be tailored to YOUR vessel: every installation is calibrated on the shaft diameter and material, the engine power, and the space available on board. The unique technology is applied to function on each individual vessel, so that it works perfectly, with maximum accuracy, for that specific configuration.

Passo 1

We collect your data

Before building anything, we want to know your vessel. We collect the engine data, the dimensions and material of the propulsion shaft. Every detail matters, because every millimetre counts.

Passo 2

We build to measure

The torque-meter ring is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your shaft. There is no field adaptation: what arrives on board is already the definitive solution.

Passo 3

We test everything in the laboratory

We have developed a simulator that allows us to replicate the behaviour of your propulsion shaft in the laboratory. Every component — from the smallest screw to the cover joint, is assembled, checked and tested before leaving our workshop. Our test procedures allow us to calibrate and tune the software to your precise specifications. When the system arrives on board, it is already ready. No adjustments needed, no on-site calibration. It works, and never stops.

Passo 4

We install it on board

Our team installs directly on your vessel. We know engine rooms; we have been in them thousands of times. Installation requires approximately 7 hours of engine downtime for the shaft components; the rest — cabling, circuit boards, connections — is completed within a day, with no further downtime. Then the system works, without asking for anything more.

Passo 5

We connect to your on-board automation

The system handles programmable outputs, RS232, RS485, MODBUS TCP/IP, analog outputs 0/10V – 4–20 mA. It adapts to your vessel’s automation or your data collector and delivers the useful data in real time to the chief engineer. We examine every request for additional data with our team of programmers and engineers.
